Research Collaboration

The breadth of focus areas within global health represented in the consortium, creates an excellent opportunity to develop multi- and transdisciplinary research projects on the forefront of global health. By applying new methodologies and preforming multi method studies, innovative work is done in the more traditional global health topics such as migration and health, health system strengthening and health equity. Furthermore, in our projects, bridges are formed to the to the neighboring disciplines one health and planetary health.

PhD

  • In 2020 McMaster University started a doctoral program in Global Health. The program focuses on the ideas, concepts, and topics that are evolving in the field, with an aim to propel innovative research and solutions to emerging challenges. Program. Students have the option to complete a cotutelle, jointly awarded by McMaster and Maastricht Universities.
  • At Maastricht University external PhD program alumni and faculty have the opportunity to pursue a PhD project, supervised by professors from UM in collaboration with professors from partner universities.

Fellowship

In 2025 the NAF Heersink fellowships in global health were introduced to strengthen the relationship between University of Alabama at Birmingham and Maastricht University. The aim of the program is to bolster transatlantic research collaboration in Global Health and empower future leaders in Global Health.
